

EMS Instructor Workshop
This course has been crafted in alignment with the National Guidelines for Educating EMS Instructors, the National Education Standards, and the Louisiana Bureau of EMS (LaBEMS). It will be delivered as a hybrid course, combining both online and in-person elements.
Course Description:
The EMS Instructor Workshop equips students to deliver prehospital assessment and care for patients of all ages facing various medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Topics covered include an overview of emergency medical services systems, EMS Practitioner roles and responsibilities, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma management, special considerations in prehospital care, and patient transportation.
Teaching-Learning Methods:
The course will employ diverse teaching methods, including assigned readings, presentations, discussion forums, chat sessions, critical thinking exercises, and interactive class activities. Evaluation will be conducted through, written tests, and assignments.
Course Objectives:
Upon completing this course, you should be able to:
1. Explain the role of EMS in the healthcare system.
2. Exhibit the professional qualities expected of EMS Practitioners.
3. Execute EMS Practitioner duties with a focus on personal and public safety.
4. Address medical-legal and ethical issues while functioning under medical guidance and within your scope of practice.
5. Utilize principles of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, lifespan development, and therapeutic communication in patient assessment and management.
6. Identify and perform immediate life-saving interventions for airway, breathing, and circulation management.
7. Evaluate and treat patients of all ages with diverse complaints, medical conditions, and traumatic injuries.
8. Implement emergency medical services operations principles, including ambulance and air medical transport, mass casualty incidents, patient access and extrication, hazardous materials situations, and responses to weapons of mass destruction.

This course will offer students the theoretical foundation of the educational process, introducing them to evidence-based best practices essential for all EMS educators. After successful completion of the theoretical component, participants must reach out to the Louisiana Bureau of EMS (BEMS) to complete the BEMS education update and NREMT Exam observation requirement.
Topics Include:
Roles and Responsibilities, Facilitation Techniques, Administrative Issues Communication and Feedback, Legal Issues in EMS Education, Motivation, Ethics, Teaching Thinking Skills, The Learning Environment, Teaching Psychomotor Skills, Learning Styles, Affective Domain, Domains of Learning, Discipline, Goals and Objectives, Remediation, Lesson Plans, Cultural Awareness, Presentation Skills, Teaching Resources, Evaluation Techniques, Research.
Course Goals:
