Advanced Emergency Medical Technician
(AEMT)

Kickstart your healthcare career as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician with our AEMT program. The AEMT serves as a vital, entry-level healthcare provider, working in various settings such as transporting patients, responding to emergencies, or assisting in hospital emergency departments. AEMT certification and practical experience are prerequisites for those pursuing Paramedic training, with many healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, beginning their journeys as AEMTs.

We offer multiple course options for you:

- On-Campus
- Hybrid
- Self-Paced

Upon successfully completing our AEMT program, you will be eligible to take the national certifying exam (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-NREMT) and become licensed as an AEMT in Louisiana.

AEMT Refresher Course

The AMT curriculum consist of four (4) parts. You must successfully complete all four (4) to be eligible to take the national certifying exam (NREMT) and become licensed as an AEMT in Louisiana. Didactic: 170 hours of lectures and interactive assignments in which you will learn fundamentals of emergency medicine and the care and transportation of patients. Skills: 80 hours of hands-on skills instruction during which ACE4EMS clinical instructors will train you and your classmates in performing the specific tasks in the AEMT's scope of practice. Exams: After completing both didactic and skills instruction, you will take a final written exam and a final skills exam. Ride-along: During the course, you will schedule a minimum of five 12-hour shifts with a local ambulance company during which you must complete twenty-five (25) contacts with actual patients.

Every practicing AEMT must renew his or her certification every two (2) years. Our refresher course combines online modules you'll complete at your own pace with hands-on skills instruction to keep you up to date on state-of-the-art patient care and the latest protocols. The in-class and skills portion occurs over two (2) days. Within 1-2 business days after you register, you'll receive an email with instructions for the online portion, which we recommend you complete prior to attending the course. AEMTs with certifications that have expired may re-certify if the date of expiration was less than two (2) years ago. If the expiration date of your AEMT certification is greater than six (6) months, additional CEUs and testing requirements may apply. Please contact our office for additional re-certification requirements if your certification has expired and you are between six (6) months and two (2) years after your expiration date.
