EMT Initial Course

EMT Refresher Course
The EMT program is divided into four components, all of which must be completed to qualify for the national certifying exam (NREMT) and obtain EMT licensure in Louisiana. 1. Didactic: This includes hours of lectures and engaging assignments where you will learn the basics of emergency medicine, as well as patient care and transportation. 2. Skills: You will receive 80 hours of practical skills training, where ACE4EMS clinical instructors will guide you and your peers in executing tasks within the EMT's scope of practice. 3. Exams: Upon finishing both the didactic and skills components, you will take a final written exam and a practical skills assessment. 4. Clinical Opportunities: Throughout course, you will arrange four 12-hour shifts with a local ambulance service, during which you must engage with 10 actual patients.
Every practicing EMT must renew his or her certification every two years. Our refresher course combines online modules you'll complete at your own pace with hands-on skills instruction to keep you up to date on state-of-the-art patient care and the latest protocols. The in-class and skills portion occurs over three weekend days. Within 1-2 business days after you register, you'll receive an email with instructions for the online portion, which we recommend you complete prior to attending the course. EMTs with certifications that have expired may recertify if the date of expiration was less than two (2) years ago. If the expiration date of your EMT certification is greater than six (6) months, additional CEUs and testing requirements may apply. Please contact our office for additional recertification requirements if your certification has expired and you are between six (6) months and two (2) years after your expiration date.
