Evon M. Smith is a dedicated professional with deep roots in Crowley, Louisiana, where she has spent her entire life. Her career has been deeply intertwined with emergency medical services, highlighting her commitment to protecting and serving her community.

​

Education and Qualifications

​

Evon is a graduate of Louisiana Technical College located in Hammond, Louisiana. With 30 years as a National Registered Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, she possesses extensive experience in the field of emergency medical services. Additionally, she has retired from a significant tenure within the state government, having dedicated over 20 years of service to the Department of Health and Hospitals, which underscores her expertise and dedication to public health.

Professional Affiliations and Responsibilities

​

Throughout her career, Evon has been active in numerous national and state professional organizations. Her notable roles include serving as a Board Member of the National Association of State EMS Officials and as a South Central Regional Representative. She has also acted as a liaison to the National Registry of EMT’s Board of Directors and has been a member of the Louisiana American Heart Association Emergency Care Committee, among other organizations. These positions have allowed her to influence EMS policy and practice at multiple levels.

Leadership in Public Health

​From 2004 to 2007, Evon held the pivotal role of Director of the Office of Public Health, Bureau of EMS and Injury Prevention. In this position, she played a crucial part in enhancing emergency medical services and injuryprevention strategies within the state. Subsequently, she transitioned to the DHH State Health Officer’s office, where she has made significant contributions to long-term care evacuation planning, especially during disaster response, serving as the ESF 8 Liaison.

Community Engagement and Personal Interests

​

Evon’s avocation revolves around caring for and safeguarding the elderly and special needs populations. She actively shares her unique skills and expertise through training and in-service events, contributing to the development of new professionals in the field.

​

Currently, she holds dual roles as the ACE4EMS Director of Education for the Louisiana Rural Ambulance Alliance (LRAA) and LRAA Response Logistics Officer, further highlighting her commitment to EMS education and community response.

​

As a personal note, Evon is an avid fan of LSU football and maintains a closely-knit family structure, embracing her role as a godparent to many. ​Her enduring passion for emergency medical services and community health reflects her lifelong dedication to serving her community and enhancing the safety and wellness of the populations she supports.
