EMS Chaplain Code of Ethics

Compassion and Respect

Treat all individuals with dignity, respect, and compassion, regardless of their background, beliefs, or circumstances.

Confidentiality

Safeguard all confidential information obtained during the course of chaplaincy work, disclosing information only as required by law or when necessary to prevent harm.

Integrity and Honesty

Demonstrate honesty and integrity in all interactions, avoiding conflicts of interest and misrepresentation of qualifications or intentions.

Non-Discrimination

Provide care and support without bias related to race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or socioeconomic status.

Professionalism

Uphold high standards of professional conduct, including appropriate boundaries, attire, and demeanor while serving in EMS settings.

Support for EMS Personnel

Offer emotional and spiritual support to EMS personnel, recognizing the stresses and challenges of emergency service work.

Respect for Beliefs

Honor the religious, spiritual, or secular beliefs of those served, refraining from proselytizing or imposing personal beliefs.

Continuous Learning

Commit to ongoing education and training in chaplaincy, crisis intervention, and emergency services.

Collaboration

Work collaboratively with EMS teams and other professionals to deliver comprehensive care and support.

Self-Care

Maintain personal health and well-being to ensure the capacity to serve others effectively.

 

This code provides guidance for EMS chaplains to ensure ethical decision-making, professional conduct, and effective support for individuals and communities in crisis.
